Thabani Mthethwa, Age 31. I learned about the programme through a friend in 2020 and decided to join in Feb 2021.
I went on to do a GSI Customer Service Specialist course where I was introduced to the other 10 courses and fell in love with the IT and Data analyst course. I believe this would help me further my skill set and also now that everything is becoming tech, this would give me an advantage in future career opportunities.
I then encouraged my friends and other young people to join the courses. The Afrika Tikkun corporate team saw my enthusiasm and approached me to become a facilitator for the GSI course in June 2021. From here I went back to my neighbourhood to encourage other youth to see the benefits and skills that I received and show them that GSI is an opportunity to further themselves.
10 candidates under my wing were absorbed by Shoprite who completed a customer service course. Later on in 2021, I was introduced to the Microsoft exams that opened even more doors and opportunities for me. I believe that any young person today should take these opportunities to not only grow themselves but to make themselves economically empowered. my motto in life is “Work hard, play hard”.
