My name is Bongani Patric Ndlovu, a 29-year-old from Soshanguve north of Pretoria. I joined Afrika Tikkun Services in 2020 for the Work Readiness program. I was part of the first cohort, which was difficult because it was the start of Covid-19 lockdown.
After completing work readiness program, I was fortunate to be part of the YES program at Wings of Life centre as a project coordinator assistant. It was an amazing opportunity and I was able to equip myself with experience and knowledge of working with young people as one of the leaders in the movement.
There is a saying that opportunity comes but once. But that doesn’t apply to Afrika Tikkun because during the very same year a local radio station came looking for a part time broadcaster and I was selected for a program on Diepsloot Radio Station during weekends. During that time, I managed to network and expand my identity as a musician. Today I still utilize the connections I have created as a broadcaster to help recruit for the GSI campaign.
At the end of my contract I got the opportunity to work permanently at Leroy Merlin, which was an opportunity to utilize my skills as a customer service specialist and also to learn how to work with customer supply and demand.
